Our Story

The Rosner, Rösner, Rosener, Resner surname has been around for several centuries. The name is most prominent in Germany, Austria, Poland. The surname is translated "from the land of Roses". There is a document called Das Rosner Register that cronicles a lineage of Rosners not too distant from ours. There is a link on this site to that document. The document explains the variations in coats of arms summed up below.

Many old European families adopted or were granted at some time during their past some heraldic emblem, as a mark of distinction , or simply as an identification to be used n battle or in the crafts. No genealogical research is complete without exploring for the coat of arms. For that purpose I contacted, through an American firm, a specialized researcher in London. After several months he reported that four different Rosner blazons exist: from a Silesian Wappenbuch of 1578; from a seal of a Dresden family in the archives of Neusalza; from another eighteenth century seal in the archives at Brieg; and of a Nürnberg family; all with reference to J. Siebmachers Grosses und Allgemeines Wappenbuch of Nuremberg I856-I96I. He asked me to make my choice. Evidently, no decision in that respect can be made without previous investigation, for which more time is needed. Unfortunately, the book has to be printed without diplaying the coat of arms. :)

The coat of arms displayed on this website is that of the area around the city of Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab, where our branch of Rosners decended from in the Barvaria region of Germany.
